OpenAI Raises $120 Billion In Record Funding Round

Privately held artificial intelligence (A.I.) start-up company OpenAI has raised $120 billion U.S. in a record funding round.

The latest fundraising exceeds the ChatGPT creator’s initial target of $100 billion U.S. in new capital.

OpenAI said this will likely be its last private funding round before the company holds its initial public offering (IPO) later this year.

Venture capitalists Andreessen Horowitz and D.E. Shaw Ventures led this fundraise. Microsoft (MSFT), a longtime investor in OpenAI, also participated in the funding round.

OpenAI was valued at $730 billion U.S. in this latest capital raise.

The A.I. start-up, which was founded in 2015, has seen unprecedented growth since launching its ChatGPT chatbot in 2022.

ChatGPT today boasts 900 million weekly active users, and the startup raked in roughly $13.1 billion U.S. in revenue during 2025.

About 60% of OpenAI’s current revenue comes from consumers, while 40% is tied to businesses or enterprise accounts.

A date for OpenAI’s IPO hasn’t been set, but it is expected to occur this year.
