E-commerce company Amazon (AMZN) has acquired Rivr, a Swiss-based robotics start-up that develops machines for doorstep delivery.
Financial details of the purchase weren’t disclosed publicly. But the deal expands Amazon’s push into robots that are used to sort and deliver its parcels and packages.
Rivr’s robots are also expected to help Amazon with its last mile of deliveries, meaning the process of getting packages to a customer’s doorsteps.
Amazon has spent more than a decade and billions of dollars automating its operations.
The Amazon Robotics unit was formed after the company acquired Kiva Systems, a manufacturer of warehouse robots, for $775 million U.S. in 2012.
Last October, Amazon celebrated the deployment of its one millionth robot across its operations.
Amazon previously invested in Rivr through its $1 billion U.S. Industrial Innovation Fund, which was launched in 2022 to back warehouse and logistics technologies.
Bezos Expeditions, the venture capital firm started by Amazon founder Jeff Bezos, participated in Rivr’s $22 million U.S. seed round in March 2025.
AMZN stock has risen 7% in the last 12 months to trade at $208.77 U.S. per share.
