Futures tracking Canada's main stocks pointed to a muted open on Tuesday as investors remained cautious following domestic GDP data, while the energy sector remains in focus on the back of strength in crude prices.
The TSX folded 311.03 points to conclude Monday at 35,489.86.
The Canadian dollar sank 0.07 cents at 70.47 cents U.S.
December futures inched back 0.05% Tuesday morning.
The energy sector will be closely watched later in the day as the Canada Energy Regulator approved Trans Mountain's tolls settlement, allowing up to 90% of the pipeline's capacity to be contracted to shippers
Shell and its partners approved LNG Canada Phase 2, a major expansion that will double the facility's production capacity to 28 million tons per annum
In major corporate news, Cleveland-Cliffs plans to lay off hundreds of workers at its Ontario plant, citing the impact of U.S. steel tariffs
On the economic slate, Statistics Canada reports GDP was essentially unchanged in July, following three consecutive months of expansion.

The TSX Venture Exchange slumped 26.76 points, or 2.9%, Monday to 894.25.
ON WALLSTREET
Stock futures were mixed early Tuesday, with traders looking to recover after a session in which equities fell once again due to pressure from rising Treasury yields.
Futures for the Dow Jones Industrials gained 45 points, or 0.1%, Tuesday to 51,882.
Futures for the S&P 500 jumped 7.25 points, or 0.1%, to 7,754.
Futures for the NASDAQ Composite recovered 70.75 points, or 0.2%. to 30,637.
Shares of fast-fashion giant Shein sank more than 11% Tuesday after the company reported a 66.6% year-on-year drop in adjusted net income to $228 million for the second quarter of 2026.
Investors will get fresh data on Tuesday that could sway Treasury yields. The September reading on U.S. consumer confidence is due at 10 a.m. ET, along with the August jobs opening and labor turnover survey.
In Japan, the Nikkei 225 ditched 0.6%, while in Hong Kong, the Hang Seng gained 0.5%.
Oil prices sank 91 cents to $91.69 U.S. a barrel.
Gold prices went higher $21.50 to $4,189.50 U.S an ounce.
